Birch bark container 7.5cm tall
Birch bark container 7.5cm tall
A small storage container made from Bark I have harvested locally from the Silver Birch trees that I also use to also make my Kuksa's from. I use the cleanest sections of wood possible for carving with, which has the benefit of some lovely bark to also use in Barkcraft.
These objects were and still are often made traditionally in Scandinavia and other Nordic countries to store food items. Our bark in the UK from the native Silver Birch tree is a little less uniform in nature than other Betula species but can be asked to form a container, knife sheath or basket from time to time.
This one measures 7.5cm high and is 7.0cm wide with a base and well fitting lid made from pine with a carved Yew handle to help lift open and to close.
Great for smaller quantities of items such as sewing kit, matches, nuts, coins, sugar, or other bits and bobs around the house or camp.
